Sustainable/Renewable — Aztec Botanical Jewelry

Botanical jewelry is one of the most ancient art forms used among the Aztec and Mayan Indians. They were used for religious ceremonies to ward off the ‘evil eye’, for medicinal purposes, and for decorating their bodies. The process to create each necklace and bracelet is very elaborate and time-intensive. First, the seeds, beans, and stones are collected from different regions of Mexico at different times of the year. Some have to be shelled before they can be treated, then hand-drilled, and polished. Then they are crocheted with up to 1000 beans or seeds and mixed with semi-precious stones. You’ll feel like a natural goddess!
